Written by Freya Hawker
HRS are delighted to welcome onboard our three students, who are joining us for placements. We’re passionate about supporting budding Dietitians and Nutrition professionals and are so excited to get them involved with everything HRS over the coming weeks. Freya is joining us from the University of Salford for a 6-month placement, and Katie and Zainab join us from UCL for a 6-week placement.
HRS is committed to offering placements and learning opportunities for students, offering a valuable perspective of the less traditional, non-clinical side of Dietetics. The students bring fresh, innovative ideas to the table so it’s just as much a learning opportunity for us as it is for them! We’re delighted to introduce them!
Meet the students:
Katie Avis – “Hi, my name is Katie, and I am a second-year Dietetics MSc student at UCL. I previously studied Biomedical Sciences at undergraduate level and then completed an MSc in Clinical & Public Health Nutrition. I’ve also worked for the NHS in the Covid-19 department which was an amazing (albeit often stressful) experience.”
Zainab Jawed – “Hi, my name is Zainab. I’m a 2nd-year MSc Dietetics student at UCL.I completed my undergraduate studies in Nutrition and then went on to work for the NHS before I decided to study Dietetics. I’m quite excited about this experience as it is unique compared to my previous two placements which were within a traditional clinical setting.”
Freya Hawker – “Hi, my name is Freya, I am a 3rd-year student studying BSc Nutrition and Health as Medicine at the University of Salford. I have joined the HRS team on work placement to gain key communication and writing skills, as well as develop my nutrition knowledge. I am currently in the early weeks of my long-term placement at HRS, but I am thoroughly enjoying my time here so far. Each day has been varied and engaging as the amazing team at HRS have put a lot of time and effort into making my experience here as tailored to me as possible to ensure I get the most out of my placement over the next 6 months.”
During their time with us, Katie and Zainab have been involved in planning the Nualtra podcast. Excitingly, they are to be featured on an upcoming episode of the RD2B podcast where they will be discussing their own journey into dietetics as well as tips and tricks for current and future students. Alongside the podcast, they have been creating blog posts and social media strategies for HRS as well as getting the opportunity to sit in on client meetings and observe how the HRS team builds relationships with brands and supports their clients. All students have also been invited to attend panel talks on behalf of the company which they are really looking forward to. Freya will also be involved in various aspects of the business from client work to marketing. Freya is keen to get involved in the content creation and regulatory affairs aspect of HRS, so has been working with our marketing team to develop some blogs and will be attending HRS’ panel talk on regulatory affairs to help develop her knowledge and skills.
We’re thrilled to have Katie, Freya and Zainab on board. Keep an eye out for updates, we’re so excited to share our students achievements with you over the coming weeks!
