Written by HRS Communications
HRS recently attended the Grow with TikTok summit at TikTok’s offices in London. We went to discover more about the platform and hear how we might use it for our clients as well as our agency. It was such an informative morning – Thank you to The Agency Collective for our invite!
If you’re curious to learn more about TikTok, we have summarised some of our key learnings from the day here for you. Let’s start with some key facts about the platform…
Did you know?
- The average daily minutes spent on TikTok are 90+
- 50% of TikTok users are not on Instagram
- 73% of users feel a deeper connection with brands they interact with on TikTok compared to other platforms
- Many now use TikTok as a search engine instead of using google
With these usage stats in mind, some of our top takeaways from the day were around how to create content for TikTok. We’ve summarised some of the tips shared below:
- Be native to the platform – Follow the style that you see being used on TikTok, such as mirroring the style of text, music etc. being used.
- Structure your posts to include the following:
- Hook – To draw the audience in in the first three to six secondsBody – Here is the key message that you’re trying to convey
- Call to action (CTA) – What action do you want the user to take e.g., click the link in bio/follow your account etc.
- Lean on sound as a storyboard – For example, base your video around a song and its lyrics
- Follow trends – If there are trends which are relevant to your brand, join in
- Produce for TikTok – This looks like:
- Shooting in 9 x 16Using a phone camera to record your content
- Produce with the safe zone in mind e.g., not having key information behind the icons on the TikTok screen
Throughout the event there were key resources highlighted that are available to help when you’re creating with TikTok. We’ve summarised a few of them below.
- TikTok Creative Centre: The creative centre is a hub of insights; you can see everything from what’s currently trending (e.g. which hashtags, songs, creators etc.) to the top performing ads
- Cap cut: This is TikTok’s sister company and is a great tool for video editing
- TikTok creator marketplace: If you don’t have the time or resource to make your own content, this is a place where creators can bid to make your content for you
- Tik Tok support team and their account managers
Have we inspired you to get started with TikTok in your work or for your clients? Why not start with creating a day in the life or a founder story video… these were highlighted as being popular!
